About This Journal

An international, peer-reviewed journal focusing on the different scales of biodiversity and ecology within Neotropics to promote conservation and sustainable management of the region's unique ecosystems and biological richness. Neotropical Biodiversity is the official journal of the Universidad Regional Amazónica Ikiam.

This journal follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Journal History

Neotropical Biodiversity is the official peer-reviewed journal of the Universidad Regional Amazónica Ikiam, located in Tena, Ecuador. Established in 2015 through initial funding from Ecuador’s Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (SENESCYT), the journal aimed to address the pressing need for accessible scientific communication in the Neotropics, the world’s most biodiverse region. This funding model removed financial barriers for authors and readers alike, fostering a truly open-access platform that values research quality above economic factors (Guayasamin and Lucio-Paredes, 2015).

Since 2022, Neotropical Biodiversity has been hosted by Ikiam, further strengthening its commitment to democratizing scientific knowledge in biodiversity-rich regions. Ikiam is a leading Amazonian research institution focused on environmental and biodiversity studies, promoting a collaborative research environment with cross-cultural partnerships worldwide.

The journal serves as a bridge between the scientific community and society, covering an extensive range of topics, including ecology, biogeography, evolutionary biology, conservation, and molecular biology. By adhering to a rigorous double-blind peer review process, Neotropical Biodiversity ensures high-quality publications that address ecological challenges, fostering scientific impact for a sustainable future.

Publishing schedule

Neotropical Biodiversity follows a continuous publishing schedule, releasing articles individually as soon as they have completed the peer review and acceptance process. This model ensures that new research findings are made available promptly to the scientific community and the public, without waiting for a full issue to be assembled. As an open-access journal, Neotropical Biodiversity thus facilitates rapid dissemination and accessibility of research relevant to the diverse Neotropical region.
